Late Thrusday afternoon, Lynch and Ladner started their journey to Sacramento for Skimfest 15. After about an hour of driving the guys arrived at the border crossing and surprisingly had smooth sailing even with both rocking thick beards. The I-5 greeted them shortly after and soon the boys were ripping southward. All was good until seattle were the guys hit some heavy traffic and were delayed big time but with the game plan of getting to Oregon that day still fresh in their heads the guys pushed onward. The cd’s soon ran out and it was radio hunting for the rest of the trip. Fast forward 6 hours the exhausted crew rolled in to Riddle (a small milling town) on the sugar rush from no name candy to meet transplanted Sacramento skimboarder Tim Pepper for a roof and couch to crash on. Soon the three were talking about tons of stuff and the night rolled on until the early morning. Lynch claimed a spot by the fan and Ladner wrapped a dog blanket around him in order to get some sleep. A few hours later the guys were cruising the I-5 again and found heaven on earth (peep the photos). With full guts and groggy heads, the two b-lined it for sacramento and arrived at Paradise Beach at around 1 pm. Soon the two were repping Vancouver joining locals and visiting skimboarders on a few different corrugated pipe setups. As the sun dropped, the two Kyda veterans were ready to get off the beach on one of the hottest days this summer. It was soon decided the guys would crash with Lon Porteous (Grandfather of flatland skim). As a thank you the boys decided to cook up a feast, so they hit up the SuperSave Market for some veggies and meats. Kyda manned the kitchen with the skill of frugal canadian, Lynch prepped the meal and ladner used his kin abilities to spice things up on the cooking end. A great meal was enjoyed by all, lots of skim talk, a showing of Insufficient Funds and then a random pass out occurred. The next morning it was skimfest. Eventually the boys rolled down to Paradise signed up and mingled with the crowd of skimboarders and spectators. By noon it was the guys time to ride. Lynch although really inconsistent managed to pull of a few nice tricks and Ladner did sort of the same in their respective heats. Both made the Finals by must likely their good looks or the skin of their teeth. As the final round started, Lynch completely self destructed but did manage to destroy a few setups and Ladner truly found his rhythm stomping a variety of tricks. This allowed Ladner to get to the 4 man sudden death round but in the break between that and his last heat some of the magic had left leaving him landing two of the four rails. One of the brightest spots off the day for Kyda didn’t come from the team but a young Sacramento rider named Tim. He managed to destroy the intermediate contest riding the battleaxe all the way to victory. Anyway, when all was said in done, the guys had pizza with lon and then jumped on the I-5 drove until they barely could see, slepted in the car at a rest stop and then went back at it early the next morning arriving in Canada Sunday night. Great trip lots of fun, thanks to the Sac guys for the event and the housing.
