7 Days of Sun. 7 Days of Skim.

Last weekend came the first hints of summer in Greater Vancovuer; the tides were out, so was the sun and the temps were high. Saturday, Kyle and Anthony spent part of the day recycling old rails and building some new ones including some pretty big and unique setups. When low tide hit the guys couldn’t resist putting down the power tools to go do some riding and met up with Chris Powell for a little rail sesh at Blamer’s. Sunday, Dylan Maranda organized a fun little event called Text Yoself BeFo Yo Wreck Yoself were we asked people to text in shout outs, tricks, and whatever else  to his cell phone. The day was a bit hectic considering the Vancouver Marathon shut down Spanish Banks but eventually things got started all be it about a hour late. Practically the whole skim team showed up and began doing their best to accomplish the tasks asked from the texts we received. Some clever individual put Dylans number on craiglist “saying he was giving away a free car”, so although slightly annoying it soon became really funny as the guys started messing with these naive callers. By the end of the day, the team had not only got a bunch of sick tricks on tape but had a really good time so look for the video of the text antics to drop sooner then later. The next few days Chris and Kyle took to the local beaches sharing a pure flatland sesh at Crescent Beach and a sesh on a unique little ollie on setup at Balmers both resulting in a bonfire at lynch’s place to warm up. For the rest of the work week, Anthony and Kyle were skimming up a storm and managed to find the sickest flatland spot in the world (Not Kidding). This spot is super wide, super long and super thin making it epic as can be. The crew is looking forward to film something in the near future at what we dude “Riveria”. Soon enough the weekend was here and Tim, Anthony, and Kyle headed down south to hangout with team rider Trevor Stine. The guys all met up at Pike Place in Seattle and had a fun time doing the tourist thing. Highlights included watching some fish getting tossed, seaching through the boutique shops and getting a ton of free mentos. Ladner even found some mischief makers so he was pretty stoked. After a few hours, the guys were on their way to Chambers Creek for some skim. When the guys reached the spot they were stoked to see that there were at least a couple of rails to sesh including an ollie-on that Blake Zimmerman and crew had brought down and a single round pipe that looks like its been hanging at the creek for some time. After a few hours of filming the sun began to drop but not before the crew shared a game of SKIM and some good laughs. Soon enough the crew was rolling to the Stine residence for some much appreciated hospitality in the forms of burgers and dogs. Like all good things it eventually had to end and the guys were soon back on the road to Canada. Sunday, Lynch took to the beach solo and impressed some locals with an ollie on down at Balmer’s and well today…. skimmin some more would be a good assumption.

So we here at Kyda have started a new series of videos that focus on the people behind the brand. This first installment puts the limelight on veteran rider Kyle Lynch as he speaks his mind on various subjects and throws bangers. We hope you enjoy getting to know the team as not only riders but as people. Until, next time get stoked on what lynch is putting down and look out for tons more media coming your way.

We Be Skimmin’ Deem Low Tides

The boys at Kyda have been skimmin’ a ton since our last update. Thanks to some nice weather in the greater Vancouver area it seems like the whole team has been getting into the swing of things. Tim Ladner, Dylan Maranda, Matt Taylor, Kyle Lynch and special guest Gattobot (Trever Gatto) shared a fun session at Spanish Banks. The usual occured with the crew avoiding the crazy amount of shells by moving towards the waters edge, where they were graced with a fun little bank slide fest with PD and the guys at Skullskates. Later on, they moved closer to shell infestation for a crazy little double rail set up. All in all a good day was had. The next day Lynch took off for Vancouver Island to pick up a minivan (the new beast of burden for the crew). After arriving on the ferry, he quickly made his way to Blueback for a schduled session with Can Montrose and Jesse Derosa. He was stoked to see that the guys were actually there because the weather was pretty horrible. After some quick introductions everyone was landing tricks, bailing or laughing. At the end of the sesh, Lynch had a contest for those who were there… the prize an epic tie dye t-shirt. Jesse came out victorious and that basically wrapped up the day of the beach. Although once everyone was at the top of the stairs the crew enjoyed some skim talk for another hour or so. The next Day Lynch was off to Qualicum to visit Smithsfords’ and had a nice talk with John (the owner). So hopefully you will see some Kyda’s gear in Qulaicum this summer. A quick sesh at Parksville and Kyle was back to the mainland. A couple days later Chris Powell (back from his adventures aboard), Tim Ladner, Anthony Davis and Kyle Lynch hit Blamer’s Beach for a dope little film session even though the wind was back to being arctic for no reason. Finally, yesterday The white rock locals where down at Balmer’s Filming a few set ups. Big props to Tanner Walde for attacking a pretty sketchy rail on his third day of skim this year. Until next time, peep the photos and get out there and skim.
